Kerala tops NITI Aayog Health Index 4th time in a row, UP stays last despite improving most

New Delhi: Kerala has emerged as a country with the best health performance as a whole for the fourth year in a row, while the state of Uttar Pradesh is the most populated below the list, according to the Federal Think Health Federal Health Index report released Monday.

Developed by entering 24 indicators in three specific fields – ‘Health Products’, ‘Governance and Information and Input and Process’ – The health index has been calculated as the weighted average of all indicators in each state and trade union for a year (2018-19) and reference year (2019-20).

Among the United States, the National Capital of Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir are between the bottom in terms of overall performance, but appear near the top in terms of ‘additional performance’.

Mizoram appears as the best player, as a whole and incremental, among smaller countries. Nagaland is below.

Report doesn’t include Covid impact

Indicators are selected based on the importance and availability of sufficient data can be relied on at least every year from existing data sources such as sample registration systems, civil registration systems and health management information systems.

The report, however, did not include the impact of Covid-19 on health outcomes or one of the other indicators as the index performance related to the base year (2018-19) and reference year (2019-20), mostly pre-covid points.
