Impact of Covid will be felt for decades, says WHO chief

The Head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that the impact of Covid will be felt for decades even when the spread of the virus slows throughout the world.

The WHO head said that the impact would be felt among the most vulnerable groups and the longer the pandemic obstacles, the impact would be worse.

“The impact of Covid pandemics will be felt for decades, especially among the most vulnerable groups. The longer the pandemic dragged, the worse the impact,” said Dr. Tedros.

Dr. Tedro said that currently only 42 percent of the population of Commonwealth countries have received a double dose of vaccination and there are extensive differences between countries.

“African countries from the Commonwealth have reached an average vaccination rate of only 23 percent. Bridging this gap is an urgent priority for whom, not only to bring a pandemic under the control and save lives, but also to protect the livelihood, and support sustainable recovery . ,” she says.

Previously, who had warned that when the virus developed, vaccines might need to evolve too. The SARS-COV-2 variant can continue to escape the neutralic antibodies caused by the vaccine against the previous variant, said Tedro.
