‘The Weekend Away’ Ending Explained: Leighton Meester’s Thriller Ends With a Major Twist

After you watch a weekend at Netflix, you might think twice before booking a weekend trip with your bestie. Because of this new thriller – which began to flow on Netflix today – find Gossip Girl Star Leighton Meester was stuck in a holiday weekend trip from hell.

Based on a novel by Sarah Alderson, and directed by Kim Farrant, the weekend will immediately attract you. From get-go, you won’t trust one of the characters that you encounter – except for Leighton Meester, of course. Blair Waldorf will never betray us. But besides that, after one of the two Besties on this trip was gone, everyone was a suspect.

The weekend away is a mystery that will make you guess to the end, with many bends and turn along the way – including a big twist that comes at the end of the film. If you don’t pay attention and confused, or if you just want to read about the film before watching it on Netflix, the determinant is here to help. Read on for a summary of the weekend plot and ending weekends explained.

WHAT IS THE WEEKEND AWAY PLOT SUMMARY?

Beth (Leighton Meester) and his BFF Kate (Christina Wolfe) started a weekend getaway in Croatia, to help Kate destroy it with her ex-boyfriend. The best part? Kate still has access to his ex credit card, so her vacation to her – at least until she knows what Kate did.

Kate pushed Beth to have wild weekends with him, even though Beth prefers facetime her husband robbed (Lukas Norris) and a new baby at home. Trying to be a good friend, Beth agreed to go to the club with Kate. Kate bought Beth drinking (although Kate asked for water), and tried to convince her to cheat her husband with two people they met at the club. The last thing Beth remembered was Kate asking for the two men to return to their place.

The next morning, Beth woke up with a terrible drunk and fuzzy memory to argue with Kate. But Kate can’t be found in Airbnb, and she doesn’t answer the phone. Beth grabbed the taxi driver, Zain (Ziad Bakri) who delivered him and Kate to the bar, and, with the help of Zain, he learned that the men he and Kate with the previous night were prostitutes.

Beth went to the police, but police officers, Pavic (Amar Bukvic) did not take him seriously. The next morning, Beth still hasn’t heard from Kate. The Zain taxi driver made the men’s companion claim that they stole Beth and Kate’s bags, but they insisted they did not hurt him. Beth got Kate’s phone back and saw that Kate had skipped a call, but she couldn’t open the phone lock. Beth Rob’s husband unexpectedly appeared in Croatia, to offer his emotional support to Beth. Shortly after he arrived, the police found Kate’s corpse in the water.

Rob returned home to London, and Beth made the police take him to Kate’s body, where he could unlock Kate’s phone. Beth looked through Kate’s text message that he had an affair with Beth’s husband, Rob, who was registered with his phone as “Handyman.” Meanwhile, Beth has been a suspect in Kate’s death – especially when police find out about infidelity. Beth wasn’t sure how the police knew about the affair … until he realized that the landlord in his Airbnb spied on him. After he found the camera hidden in his room, he stole the key to the land and opened a mysterious locked room. Inside, he found the recordings of everyone who lived in Airbnb, including Kate’s night record missing. Beth saw that Kate returned to Airbnb, upset, after being reduced by the car. He recorded a car number plate.

After a fight with the host Airbnb, Beth squeezed Zain to help him find out where Kate left that night. According to Kate’s taxi driver, he took Kate to the police station, where he submitted a report about the escort of men who stole his bag. Beth couldn’t understand why the police would not tell him about this when he first reported Kate missing. Then the police appeared, and Beth saw that the Pavic officer had the same car as he saw drop off Kate on the Airbnb footage. He concluded that Pavic was the person who killed Kate, and he ran.

WHAT IS THE WEEKEND AWAY ENDING EXPLAINED?

The corner of Beth Pavia on the roof. Beth accused him of killing Kate, he said that Kate was a prostitute, and then physically attacked Beth. Both struggles, and then Pavic lost the footing and fell into his death. Other police officers watched this down and officially apologized to Beth because they did not trust him. The police found a recording that confirmed Pavic Drove Kate Home. They also found a recording showing a man hit Kate on the boardwalk, before pushing him into the water. The police assumed that Kate rejected the progress of Pavia, that she took her badly, and killed her. Apparently, he was accused of sexual violations in the past, but the accusation was then dropped against him. After cleaning from all charges, Beth returned to his life in London. Everything ends … or right?

Beth was now separated from her husband Rob, and in the last scene of the film, he dropped his baby in his apartment. He asked him to keep tea, but he refused. However, when he went to take the key to his car from Rob’s coat pocket, he found the beads from the necklace he gave Kate on the Croatian trip. He realized the only way Rob could have that bead if he saw Kate when they were in Croatia. Warning Twist Plot: Pavic doesn’t kill Kate. That’s her husband!

Beth forgave himself to the bathroom Rob and called the Croatian police who covered his case. He told the officer that Pavic didn’t kill Kate, but before he could say more, robbed the bathroom door to examine it. Beth left the phone while he had a conversation with Rob, and accused him of killing Kate. Robbed claimed and said it was an accident. He appeared in Croatia because Kate threatened to tell Beth about infidelity, and did not receive Rob’s phone. They quarreled at the boardwalk, and robbed Hitting Kate, accidentally knocked him into the river where he slammed his head on a rock. Rob said he assumed he was dead, but we saw in a flashback that Rob saw him struggling in the water.

Beth realized that the whole weekend was far away not about Kate to rest, it was about Kate trying to help Beth realize who he was without Rob. Beth revealed that he had called with the police during Rob’s confession. He moved to attack him, but he defeated him and fled with his baby. In the last shot of the film, we saw Beth walking through the park with his baby, finally free.
