Biography
On August 24, 1947, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Paulo Coelho de Souza was brought into this world. He attended a Jesuit school, and when he was a teenager, he knew he wanted to become a writer. His parents were not satisfied with his wish, and they thought that he was opposed to following a traditional path means that he should be put in a psychiatric establishment.
Coelho had been there since the age of 17, and before freeing him at the age of 20, he managed to escape three times. Coelho’s parents were strict on religion and faith, and they raised it to be a good Catholic. Some of his words were considered dangerous and were associated with occultism, which led to his arrest and torture by the military government in power. Before starting to follow his teenage dream, Coelho worked as an actor, theater director and journalist.
