A Ukraine commander in Mariupol appealed directly to Elon Musk on Wednesday, asking the richest people in the world to intervene on the name of those trapped by Russian troops to control the southern city.
The three-month-old war has destroyed a strategic port, where Ukraine has maintained a pocket of resistance from the Azovstal steel work after weeks of bloody battles.
Serhiy Volyna, Marine Brigade Commander, who was 36, said he created a Twitter account for one purpose to reach Musk.
People say you come from other planets to teach believers in things that are impossible,” Volyna Tweeted at Musk.
Our planets are next to each other, because I live in a place that is almost impossible to survive. Help us out of Azovstal to a mediation country. If not you, then who?”
He asked “Everyone on Planet Earth” to help ensure Musk see his request.
Earlier this week, Kyiv said that more than 1,000 troops, many of them were injured, remained in the extensive Azovstal factory, sheltering in the labyrinth of the bunker and the Soviet era tunnel from Russia which now controls Marianupol.
Women, children and parents have been evacuated from sites that are surrounded as part of the humanitarian mission coordinated by the United Nations and the Red Cross.
Twitter, what Musk wants to buy in an $ 44 billion agreement, has seen a user explosion due to war in Ukraine, with people who use social media services to find news and support, according to the company.
Musk, who has more than 92 million followers, had previously used a platform to challenge Russian President Vladimir Putin for “single battle” above Ukraine.
Last month, the Head of Tesla born in South Africa responded to Ukraine’s request for internet services by activating Starlink Satellite Broadband services and sending equipment to help bring connectivity to areas hit by Russian military attacks.
